The Amazing Location!

Our vinyasa yoga surf retreat will be held on and overlooking the world renowned Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall. This golden sands beach gets some of the best waves in the country and is the perfect place to learn to surf. The beach is life guarded and all our qualified surf instructors also have their lifeguard qualification meaning you are in very safe hands.

The Yoga Studio

Oceanflow Yoga Studio has been running for nearly four years now. It is located at the south end of Fistral beach on the Pentire Headland. We have grandstand views of Fistral Beach from our Vinyasa studio where you can practice whilst watching the waves roll in. This studio will be used for evening meals to make the most of the view and the glorious sunsets we get.

We will also be using the great outdoors as our second yoga studio. Sometimes there is really nothing better than practicing yoga surrounded by nature and the elements!

Surf Yoga

We will be holding two outdoor surf yoga classes on the grounds of the Headland Hotel above Fistral Beach. It has amazing views and is a truly inspirational place to practice yoga from. The class will be surf specific, aimed at yoga postures that will open the body up and help speed up the learning process. We also share some tips on how to create the right mindset to help you stay balanced on your board in the surf lesson which follows.

All this whilst watching the waves break from a private lawned terrace overlooking the beach. The perfect spot to get in the zone and prep body and mind!

Surf Lessons

The surf lessons will be taught by the friendly team at The Surf Sanctuary who operate out of the Headland Hotel. Dom and his instructors have had years of experience teaching people of all levels and abilities to surf. They are qualified, professional instructors who have a fantastic teaching style which immediately put people at ease who may be nervous about learning to surf for the first time.

All wetsuits and surfboards are provided and the success rate of standing if it is your first class is remarkably high (especially for yogis and if you participate in the surf yoga class beforehand)

The Itinerary

6pm meet at Oceanflow Yoga Studio for a VINYASA yoga class to stretch out the body after your travels.

8pm we will serve a delicious organic, gluten free light evening meal to nourish you after the yoga class.

7.30am in the studio for an energising 60 minute vinyasa session to wake the body up and get the energy moving ready for the day ahead.

8.30am ice cool, hydrating smoothies waiting for you after class

FREE TIME – grab breakfast back at your hotel or to explore some of the lovely breakfast places we have on our doorstep. We would suggest a lovely beach or cliff walk after brekkie to digest and take in the stunning coastline that surrounds us (or maybe just take a good book down to the beach and relax!)

11am meet on the terrace at the Headland Hotel for a 45 minute outdoor surf-yoga class (more world class views!) to warm the body up and open it out ready for the surf lesson.

11.45am time to hit the water with the team from The Surf Sanctuary

2pm we will then have lunch ready for you back at the studio. This is the time to absorb the surf stoke and recall stories of getting barrelled on your first wave of the day or seeing a dolphin jump out of the wave in front of you.

FREE TIME Suitably filled and re-energised, you then have the afternoon to yourself. There are so many options open to you and we would be happy to arrange things in advance on your behalf. Some ideas include the following:

  • Horse riding down the River Gannel and onto Crantock Beach
  • Getting back in the water for another surf!
  • Taking a SUP boarding tour down the River Gannel
  • Coasteering
  • Take a cliff walk from Pollyjoke (Porth Joke) around to Holywell Bay
  • Book a treatment in our Wellbeing Studio (Bowen, Massage or Reiki)

We have listed a few of our favourites above but the list really is endless with so many amazing things to see and do. Alternatively you can take a stroll down to the beach with your favourite book and get to work on your tan!

6.00pm back in the vinyasa studio for a gentle, stretching yin yoga practice followed by a yoga nidra to calm the body and mind down preparing you for a good nights sleep.

7.30pm we will serve another delicious organic, gluten free evening meal whilst we enjoy the fiery red skies as the sun sets over the ocean.

11am meet on the terrace at the Headland Hotel (We give you a slight lie in on Sunday!) ready for another surf specific vinyasa yoga class to prepare us for another awesome session in the surf.

12.15pm We hit the waves with Dom and his team and show him how us yogis do it…Prizes for the best yoga posture on a surfboard! Maximum kudos for a headstand (See vid of Jen polishing her headstand skills!) 🙂

2.30pm After drying off in the sun it is an outdoor picnic for one final  meal together and tales of headstands on the surfboard. This signifies the end of the weekend retreat and we hope you will return home feeling rejuvenated, exhilarated and wanting to come back for more! Recent studies have suggested time and time again that money spent on memories has far more value than money spent on possessions. Enrich your life, nourish your soul and never stop having fun!
