CORE FLOW – A stronger flow yoga class that will focus on core stability and increasing flexibility throughout
our bodies. CORE FLOW will help you align your body, build up protection for your back and help
you move efficiently. A great class for those interested in fitness; especially surfers, paddle boarders,
runners and cyclists looking to stay strong and supple, as well as anyone else who is wanting the
benefits of having a stronger core and bendier limbs! Classes finish with focus on the breath and
relaxation to gather the benefits of the physical work. Suitable for all levels, those with some previous experience of yoga or a good level of fitness looking to combine yoga into their routine.

ENERGISE – In this Lotus Flow vinyasa yoga class we combine movement with the breath to create an energising and
detoxing flow. Themed for the season, you’ll wake up your body for the weekend ahead, feel vibrant and connected with surrounding environment. All levels class.

FOUNDATION – Suitable for beginners or those looking for a more alignment based flow practice.
A slower paced class that focuses on correct alignment and getting the most from your yoga practice.
There will be an element of flow between poses to warm and stretch out the body to encourage flexibility,
taking time to look at how the body should be aligned in stronger poses and options to modify
depending on your needs. To end the class, guidance on breath control (pranayama) and relaxation
will help to bring a sense of calm and well-being to body and mind.

Jen Harvey

Jen is co-owner of Oceanflow Yoga Studio. She has been practicing Yoga since 2001 where it quickly became a fierce passion she wished to explore deeper. Her travels took her to studios all over the world where a variety of teachers and styles in London, New York and San Francisco inspired her to become a teacher and share all she’d learned over a decade of practicing regularly.
In 2012 Jen qualified as a 200hr (Yoga Alliance) Seasonal Yoga Teacher and opened Oceanflow Yoga studio with Stretch in Newquay in 2014! In Jen’s classes, the season and the energy of the body are taken into account in order to help people to bring balance back to their body, mind and spirit through all branches of their lives. Music is a big part of Jen’s classes so enjoy the euphoric beats at one of her Vinyasa flow Silent Disco Yoga classes or relax out to soothing tunes during a Mellow session.
Currently Jen is working through her 300hr advanced teacher training with Laughing Lotus centre in New York to add a deeper understanding to the yoga practice and share with all, the amazing benefits that yoga has to offer!

Our twisted ARM BALANCE special ‘Learn to FLY!’ workshop-style class will explore a variety of ways to get into flying twisted shapes such as Dragonfly & Astavakrasana and we’ll share our tips and techniques for balancing on your hands with ease & grace.
We’ll look at the foundations needed to put into place to be able to add seemly tricky arm balances into your flow practice safely.
Expect creative vinyasa sequencing with pauses to practice balancing on our head and hands before mixing them back in through safe and fun transitions!
This class is suitable to those that have an existing vinyasa practice. You do not already need to be able to do arm balances & headstands but come with an adventurous attitude to giving things a try!

Lots of forecasted sunshine in Newquay can only mean one thing – a Silent Disco Yoga event outside! We will be hosting TWO very special Silent Disco Yoga sessions on the golden sands of Fistral Beach. At 3pm is the upbeat UPLIFT FLOW yoga session followed by a super relaxing 45-minute guided YOGA NIDRA at 4.30pm. This meditation will leave you restored and refreshed. Join us for an indulgent afternoon of movement and music! A magical immersive yoga experience!

Ticket prices for UPLIFT FLOW is £12 or £10 with a share on Facebook. Children under 12 years can come for £6 when accompanied by an adult.
If you want to come to our MEDITATION session after the class, we are offering a discounted price of £16 to include both sessions.

Our Summer beach sessions year are looking to be sunny, warm and with a light wind. It’s always wise to layer up in Cornwall though and bring blankets for your final relaxation! In the UPLIFT class, think Vinyasa Flow yoga, building energy through movement whilst listening to the sound of euphoric uplifting beats. There will be plenty of room to spread out on the beach – look out for us at the north end of Fistral on the sand near the Beach Bar.

If you missed the last ones, our SILENT DISCO YOGA class is a musical yoga experience not to be missed! The all levels vinyasa flow class with be accentuated by wearing headphones and immersing yourself into a musical journey as you practice – don’t worry, the headphones stay on! The class is taught using a microphone that you will also hear via the headphones and postures are choreographed to the varying rhythms of the playlist. A very immersive yoga experience! Beginners are welcome as there will be options offered for all.
The specialised headphones are provided with the ticket and you’ll be able to hear both the music and Jen’s melodic voice to guide you through the class. Bring your own mat or hire one from us when you book your ticket for £2.

For those of you interested in the meditation side of yoga, join us from 4.30pm for a 45min Yoga Nidra practice that has been specially designed to listen to with headphones.

YOGA NIDRA is a beautiful guided meditation practice that is very accessible and promotes a deep sense of relaxation in the body and mind. This is an essential tool for anyone who suffers from stress, anxiety, insomnia or struggles to quieten that chattering mind.
What could be better than laying out on the beach in the sunshine, breathing in the fresh sea air whilst listening to Stretch’s calming voice through headphones? Yes yes yes sign me up!

This practice is suitable for anyone, including kids and even better if you bring a sleeping bag to wrap yourself up in as you chill out and switch off!

Description: Our Seasonal Yoga Day Retreat for Late Summer is designed to energise, support and strengthen your body and mind through specially designed grounding Vinyasa & nurturing Yin yoga classes, pranayama (breathing work) and relaxing meditation techniques.

Seasonal Yoga is a unique style of yoga studied in depth by both of us where we connect familiar postures with the ancient knowledge of the 5-Element Theory from Traditional Chinese Medicine This powerful combination brings about a sense of balance as well as restoring your body & mind towards your highest energetic potential.

Claire Cook

Claire has always had an interest in anatomy and physiology and after completing a degree in Sport and Exercise Science, she worked as a personal trainer for over ten years. Claire found yoga to be a journey that started with wanting to work on the physical elements such as improving her flexibility, balance and strength, but then she discovered the added benefits yoga brought and yoga soon started to become a big part of her life.
Claire then was introduced to the fluid and beautiful practice of Vinyasa Flow and went on to complete her 200 hour Teacher Training in 2010 with Yoga London that emphasised on alignment and the development of postures through flowing sequences. Her speciality is in working with stability of the core so catch her in her awesome CORE FLOW classes!
Having completed Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training with the experienced Yoga Therapist Uma Dinsmore-Tuli and Postnatal Training with the inspirational Nadia Narain, claire feels it’s important to encourage the mums to maintain their health and fitness whilst promoting relaxation and preparing the body for labour and then helping new mums recover after the birth, both classes are offered here in studio!

Holly Kellam

Holly is a certified Yoga Alliance instructor with many passions all related to sharing harmony, healing and abundance with others in a way that respects and honours each other and our home, the Earth. This is a road she has always walked and is a native American philosophy known as the “Beauty Path”. It takes many forms yet the movement of the body in yoga, the nourishment of the body through holistic nutrition & foraging and helping others open their hearts through travel have been paramount and have helped assist students on their own journeys of self-realisation. She feels truly honoured to be able to share her gifts with others both on and off the mat.
Holly is currently deepening her knowledge as a student of Yoga Anatomy with Tiffany Cruikshank, Mindfulness/Traditional Chinese Medicine via Yin Yoga with Josh Summers, spiritual studies with anthropologist Hank Wesselman and Native American ceremony with Lynn Andrews.

Leigh started her journey in the wellbeing industry in 2005 training as a Personal Trainer but swiftly moved into teaching group fitness. It was due to overtraining and over-teaching fitness classes that brought her to Yoga and also because of the more mindfulness benefits. Leigh trained with Sun Power Yoga in 2012 and then went on to find a practice that resonated with her – Ashtanga. Although of lot of the series is something that she finds limiting due to the physical needs of her body, Leigh still went onto train with David Swenson in 2016 and realised that the practice can be adapted for all, it’s not an elitist yoga and should never be taught as such. Leigh’s taught online for Yoga platforms such as Yogaia and abroad at detox retreats in Gozo and Portugal before finally settling for Cornish life with her dog Skye.

Louise has been practicing and studying yoga for 8 years. Immersing herself in Anusara yoga, then qualifying as a Vinyasa Flow teacher at a Yoga Alliance registered School of Yoga.
Hindu spirituality and a practice that builds strength and flexibility combine to create yoga classes that are inspirational and help to develop physical fitness. Louise’s classes are refreshing, joyful and balanced.
She combines Myth, Mantra & Mudra with a carefully considered selection of poses in a graceful Vinyasa flow. The way she sets the scene with stories and music invites you on a gentle journey with your practice that will leave you feeling inspired.
Her calming voice, clear instructions and focus on breathing techniques help her students to quieten their minds and listen to their inner truth

This day long immersion focuses on cultivating and developing the foundations of a solid and consistent straight handstand. All levels are welcome – from complete novice, to more experienced practitioner. The day is split into two sections, they are as follows:

Part One: Hands as Feet – Learn to Turn Your World Upside Down (12:00 PM – 15:00 PM)
The aim of this workshop is to bring you a deeper understanding of the relevant anatomy and alignment principles of a handstand. With a focus on the five key focus points of an inversion, and through practical experience of various skills and drills, this workshop will help you to obtain a solid foundation from which to build your inversions practice – leading to a more solid and consistent Inversion practice, and helping you to find balance upside down with ease.

Part two: Discovery & Balance – building strength, developing mobility, & discovering balance for your Handstand (15:30PM – 18:30 PM)
The aim of this workshop is to bring a deeper understand of how we develop both strength + stability and also Mobility for our inversions practice. After gaining a solid understanding of the foundations and building blocks of a handstand, this workshop builds on the skills and drills developed in the previous workshop.Through exploring relevant applied anatomy, theory, and lots of practical experience – this workshop will teach you how to find and maintain balance and stability when on your hands – leading to more consistency and confidence in your inversions practice.

A 2.5hr masterclass with Jen to learn how to incorporate inversions and arm balances into vinyasa flow!
Our Playing with PINCHA special ‘Learn to FLY!’ workshop-style class will explore how to find Forearm stand (Pincha Mayurasana) from a strong base and we’ll share our tips and techniques for balancing on your arms with ease & grace.
We’ll look at the foundations needed to put into place to be able to add seemly tricky inversions into your flow practice safely. We’ll be using a mix of props and partnering as well as free flow to explore different ways of getting upside down.
Expect creative vinyasa sequencing with pauses to practice balancing on our head, arms and hands before mixing them back in through safe and fun transitions!
This class is suitable to those that have an existing vinyasa practice. You do not already need to be able to do arm balances & headstands but come with an adventurous attitude to giving things a try!

‘Twist out the Tension – Free the breath and unravel the spine’ (10:00 AM – 13:00 PM) This workshop focuses on exploring how we release tension in the muscles that restrict our breathing, and that limit the movements of our spine – through working with the hips, the shoulders /chest, and the side body. It also explores breathing mechanics, some methods of pranayama, exploring how each of the practices effects the internal systems of the body.Join me on the mat for this intelligently sequenced and anatomically conscious fun and explorative workshop. This workshop is for people just beginning their physical yoga practice, practioners looking for deeper insight into mobility and flexibility in Twisting, and also for any other practitioners / teachers looking to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the body in twists and breathing mechanics, and how to efficiently and safely approach the practice.

“Building a Bridge” (13:30 PM – 16:30 PM) Bend so you don’t break – a backbend workshop for beginners and those that wish to deepen their back bending knowledge. Our spines are an incredible combination of strength and flexibility – of Sthira and Sukha. Learning to backbend safely comes from gaining a deeper understanding of how we can find both ease and strength in our physical practice. This workshop looks at both the applied anatomy, and the applied physical practices you can use to ‘Build a Bridge’ (Upward Bow/Urdhva Dhanurasana) + various other backbends. Incorporating various methods of physical practice to release the anterior (front) and lateral (side) chains of the body, and also to activate the anterior chain (back body) – this workshops aims to give you a deeper insight into how you can find strength, stability and ease in your back-bending practice. This four week meditation course is ideal for those looking at starting a regular meditation practice. Throughout the course of the 4 weeks, we’ll explore various techniques to establish and use our breath to find focus and concentration. In addition to this, we will workshop a variety of seated postures, including lying down if this is more beneficial in relaxing you and then come into a guided meditation practice. Each week will be a guided meditation practice with its own theme including working with the Chakras along with heart opening practices. Studio Timetable whilst Jen & Stretch are in Bali!

Hey yogis!

As most of you know, Jen & Stretch are hosting the first international Oceanflow Yoga retreat over in Bali at the end of the month so here’s what you need to know about the studio whilst they’re away from 22nd October – 11th November.

The majority of classes are running as normal with our wonderful teachers, Holly, Claire, Leigh & Louise covering classes where needed. Check out the live timetable on the app or website for any class changes.

You main contact for anything studio related is Holly on 07581004744 or holly@oceanflowyoga.co.uk. Facebook messages will be checked from time to time but please do not rely on this method to book or cancel classes. Also please avoid texting Jen or Stretch’s phone whilst they are away as they will not be able to respond.

Remember that there is a 3hr cancellation policy for classes otherwise there will still be a charge for your spot. If you’re on the waiting list, keep an eye out on glofox for a space to come up on busy classes! The front door will be locked for security at the start of classes so please arrive with time to relax before class to ensure you can practice.

If you’re experiencing any issues with our booking app or online booking system, we suggest you try the following trouble shooters…. log fully out and then back in again, update or reinstall the app, check user email address is in lower case.

We will provide seasonal information about our bodies, lifestyle and holistic health tips as well as cooking you a tasty lunch and snacks that are gluten and dairy-free. All yoga and meals are held in our tranquil studio in Newquay with stunning and unobstructed views over Fistral beach.

Tim Kellam has over 20 years experience of practising and teaching tai chi and chi kung. Designed for health & wellbeing the workshop will be divided into two parts.

Part 1
Tai Chi Chi Kung / Shibashi
We will focus on the breath and the 18 moves of Tai Chi and Chi Kung commonly known as Shibashi. Easy to learn and very practical, collectively they are a physical and emotional
first aid kit.

Short Break with tea and treats

Part 2
Tai Chi
Starting with a short meditation we will go through a short Tai Chi sequence and learn how to link the two together.

This is an excellent introduction into the principles of tai chi and the potential health benefits – and an excellent way to centre yourself.

All exercises will be performed standing and no special clothing required. *This workshop does not contain any martial art training or yoga.

This Saturday’s Pop-Up SUNSET session will be timed with the famous Cornish sunsets we experience here in Newquay. Practice Vinyasa yoga to Balearic beats whilst watching the sun drop down into the ocean. Mmmm yes please!

If you are wondering what these events are, think 100-200 yogis of all ages and abilities coming together to practice yoga whilst listening to the sound of euphoric beats and guided by our teacher through the headphones. Now don’t worry you don’t need to be an expert to come along, we regularly have people who have never done yoga before come to these events and love it! ! Ticket prices for the beach events are £12. Children under ten can come for £6 when accompanied by an adult.

The class will be held at a very special new location! Join us at the Pentire Headland Pitch & Putt green, home to the new cafe ‘The Kracken’! This venue has sweeping views of Fistral beach and of course the beautiful sunset that has been forecasted for Saturday evening, perfect for our class! Also, it’s at the opposite end of town to the Boardmasters festival so you can get away from the crowds and immerse yourself in some great music and movement whilst looking over the festival!

There is free parking all over the headland in marked bays and a nearby pay & display at the end of Pentire Avenue which is £2 after 4pm. Make sure you give yourself enough time to park and walk onto the green towards hole 6 to find us! Use the postcode TR7 1PF to locate our whereabouts!

The specialised headphones are included in the ticket price and if you need a mat, you can rent one from us for £1.

Description:

Arm Balances – Our Arm Balance workshop will start with a warm up and comprehensive core preparation to get ready for creating some crazy shapes whilst balancing on your hands! We’ll be doing a mix of Arm Balance posture clinics and learning the variations of trickier shapes as well as bringing them in as options as we weave them through a Vinyasa yoga flow. Expect Crows, Astavakrasana, Koundinyasana, Handstand and more! Suitable for those with an existing yoga practice.

Inversions – Our Inversion workshop will be exploring your yoga practice upside down! Looking at ways we can invert safely and with support and understand the benefits of each pose. Through careful instruction and workshopping, we will experience a range of inversions and their variations ranging from gentle and restorative to more advanced postures, so there will be something for everyone. The workshop will finish with a restorative relaxation session and is suitable for beginners.

Our next BEACH session of the year is looking to be sunny, warm and a fantastic continuation of the Silent Disco Yoga outside events this summer. Think Vinyasa Flow yoga, building energy through movement whilst listening to the sound of euphoric beats. There will be plenty of room to spread out as we are doing it on the sand at the north end of Fistral Beach! Ticket prices for the beach events are £12 however we are offering a £2 discount if you share the event on facebook when you book. Children under ten can come for £6 when accompanied by an adult.
In case of wet weather, will schedule for the next available sunnier weekend!
 
If you missed the last ones, our SILENT DISCO YOGA class is a musical yoga experience not to be missed! The all levels vinyasa flow class with be accentuated by wearing headphones and immersing yourself into a musical journey as you practice – don’t worry, the headphones stay on! The class is taught using a microphone that you will also hear via the headphones and postures are choreographed to the varying rhythms of the playlist. A very immersive yoga experience! We’re absolutely gutted to have to postpone today’s Silent Disco Yoga class – we were hoping it would brighten up but it looks like a lovely band of heavy rain is passing through Newquay just as we would be starting our class…. Great for the flowers but not so much for us! However, tomorrow afternoon is looking sunshiny and gorgeous so we are postponing the class until tomorrow – Sunday 11th June at 4pm out in front of the beach bar at the north end of Fistral.

We would really appreciate it if you can RSVP to the following options:

  1. Yep, I’m there and can’t wait!
  2. I can’t make it but I’d love to roll my ticket over for another time! (we’ll be running many more over the summer months!)
  3. Can’t make it at all so can I have a full refund please?

108 Sun Salutations for charity! Celebrate the arrival of Summer at Lewinnick Lodge on Sunday 18th June at 9am

Join us to celebrate the arrival of Summer with 108 Sun Salutations! This is an uplifting ancient tradition that is used by yoga communities all over the world to celebrate each change of season. It might sound like a lot but surprisingly is more mentally challenging than physically! All levels and beginners welcome. This will be a free class and will be taking donations for a local charity so please bring any pennies that you can spare. The event will be held on the new decking at Lewinnick Lodge.
