What to Expect From Your HOT Yoga – Surf Retreat
The Oceanflow HOT Yoga -Surf Retreats are open to all abilities even those who have never practiced hot yoga before (and definitely those who have never surfed before!). Below is an idea of what to expect:
Everyone meets at 6.30pm on Friday evening at Oceanflow Yoga Studio for a HOT yoga class to stretch out the body after your travels. At 8pm we will serve a delicious organic, gluten free light evening meal to nourish you after the yoga class.
Saturday morning starts early at 7.30am in the HOT room for a sweaty express session to wake the body up and get the energy moving ready for the day ahead. There will be ice cool, hydrating smoothies waiting for you after class and then you have some free time to either grab breakfast back at your hotel or to explore some of the lovely breakfast places we have on our doorstep. W We would suggest a lovely beach or cliff walk after brekkie to digest and take in the stunning coastline that surrounds us (or maybe just take a good book down to the beach and relax!)
At 11am we meet on the terrace at the Headland Hotel for a 45 minute outdoor surf-yoga class (more world class views!) to warm the body up and open it out ready for the surf lesson. Then its time to hit the water with the team from The Surf Sanctuary. Dom and his instructors have had years of experience teaching people of all levels and abilities to surf. They are qualified, professional instructors who have a fantastic teaching style which immediately put people at ease who may be nervous about learning to surf for the first time. All wetsuits and surfboards are provided and the success rate of standing if it is your first class is remarkably high (especially for yogis and if you participate in the surf yoga class beforehand).
We will then have lunch ready for you back at the studio. This is the time to absorb the surf stoke and recall stories of getting barrelled on your first wave of the day or seeing a dolphin jump out of the wave in front of you. Suitably filled and re-energised, you then have the afternoon to yourself. There are so many options open to you and we would be happy to arrange things in advance on your behalf. Some ideas include the following:
- Horse riding down the River Gannel and onto Crantock Beach
- Getting back in the water for another surf!
- Taking a SUP boarding tour down the River Gannel
- Take a cliff walk from Pollyjoke (Porth Joke) around to Holywell Bay
- Book a treatment in our Wellbeing Studio (Bowen, Massage or Reiki)
We have listed a few of our favourites above but the list really is endless with so many amazing things to see and do. Alternatively you can take a stroll down to the beach with your favourite book and get to work on your tan!
We meet at 6.00pm back in the vinyasa studio for a gentle, stretching yin yoga practice followed by a yoga nidra to calm the body and mind down preparing you for a good nights sleep. This space has stunning views over Fistral Beach and the evening time is particularly special as we watch the sun set over the ocean. If you are lucky, you may even see a pod of dolphins playing out in the bay. At 7.30pm we will serve another delicious organic, gluten free evening meal whilst we enjoy the fiery red skies as the sun sets over the ocean.
On Sunday morning we meet at 11am in the HOT studio (We give you a slight lie in on Sunday!) . This time it is a HOT FLOW class preparing us for another awesome session in the surf. We then hit the waves with Dom and his team and show him how us yogis do it…Prizes for the best yoga posture on a surfboard! Maximum kudos for a headstand 🙂
After drying off in the sun it is back to the studio for one final hearty lunch and tales of one armed handstands on the surfboard. This signifies the end of the weekend retreat and we hope you will return home feeling rejuvenated, exhilarated and wanting to come back for more! Recent studies have suggested time and time again that money spent on memories has far more value than money spent on possessions. Enrich your life, nourish your soul and never stop having fun!
Accomodation is not included in this retreat however there are literally hundreds of places to choose from in Newquay. Staying in one of the hotels/guest houses on the Pentire Headland is very convenient as the Yoga studio is then within easy walking distance (…as is the beach!) Below are a couple of suggestions which we have had yogis stay at in the past and have given us positive feedback:
Nice and affordable: The Esplanade Hotel www.esplanadehotelnewquay.co.uk
